Data Center Operations

ICARUS Ops Error Elimination System (EES) · designed to reduce errors

Deployed in the field for data center operations for over twelve years.

ICARUS Ops runs data center MOPs, SOPs and EOPs as step-by-step digital procedures on Android and iOS devices. Each step is time-stamped, critical steps can require a photo or a sign-off, and rounds done too fast to be realistic are flagged for review.

ICARUS Ops makes digital procedure software for high-reliability operations. Operations teams write and approve procedures in the ICARUS Ops web portal. Field crews run them step by step in native Android and iOS apps, online or offline, with time stamps, photo proof, QR or barcode scans to verify the correct lineup or asset, and QA sign-off.

What data center teams run in EES

  • MOPs for maintenance and changes on critical power and cooling equipment, approved before the work starts.
  • SOPs and daily and weekly rounds. Rounds and generator runs, with time stamps and performance curves.
  • EOPs and emergency checklists, stored on the device and ready even in the middle of another procedure.
  • Switching and isolation, including card-by-card UPS isolation and lockout/tagout where required.

How it works

  1. Author. Write the procedure in the ICARUS Ops web portal, with review, approval and version control.
  2. Assign and sync. Assign it per site, per person or per department. Crews sync it to the Android or iOS app before work.
  3. Execute offline. Crews follow one step at a time, in a fixed order. Critical steps need a photo, a reading or a QA sign-off.
  4. Sync and review. Records upload to the cloud when the device reconnects. HQ reviews them in the ICARUS Ops web portal.

Built for data center construction, energization, and operations

  • Decision-tree branching. Yes/no branches based on equipment condition, so the technician sees the right next step for what they find.
  • Readings with ranges. Steps capture readings, and entries outside the range the author set are flagged.
  • Photo and video with annotation. Attach photos or short video to a step and mark them up.
  • QA sign-off gates. The technician cannot continue past a hold point until the sign-off is recorded.
  • Reference documents on the step.
  • Emergency procedures kept separate from normal procedures, stored on the device.
  • PDF export is available on request, though the digital ICARUS Ops EES platform is the intended path.

Proof built into every step

  • Every step recorded. Every step records who completed it and when. Critical steps can require a photo or short video.
  • Performance curves captured. Date-time curves show how long each step and round took, and anomalies get flagged: a 5-minute inspection done in 30 seconds is flagged just as readily as a 2-hour job that takes 6.
  • Data ranging. Set acceptable ranges for each entry. A pop-up warns when an entry is out of range, incorrect data gets flagged, and typos are caught before they enter EES. For example, 48 V entered where 480 V is expected.
  • Field data, surfaced for leadership. Daily rounds capture battery temperatures and voltages, fluid and fuel levels, and UPS loads. Out-of-range data and incomplete checklists flag instantly, and AI surfaces the 5 of 1,000 procedures that need attention.
  • Out of range? Fix it now. When a reading falls outside the range the author set, the field user can correct the entry or open a work order on the spot. Ranging catches slow drift, like a 24 V generator battery, that a BMS never sees.
  • Critical gates. The right level of proof at every critical gate: QA sign-off, a photo, or a short video, whatever the step demands.

Reducing human error in operations

EES is designed to reduce human error in data center operations: steps appear one at a time in the approved order, critical steps need proof, and HQ sees what was done, by whom and when. It supports, and does not replace, your operations program and the judgment of qualified staff.

Emergency checklists

Emergency checklists are stored on the device, open with one tap from any screen, and work with no signal, even in the middle of another procedure. Having accurate, ready procedures is the right way to mitigate risk for your operations team. See emergency checklists.

Emergency checklists support, and do not replace, your site emergency action plan and calling 911.
